INTERIOR DESIGN PORTFOLIO

Here are some projects from Breathe Interiors.

The Alluring Powder Room

Toronto, Ontario

This room has no windows and dark wallpaper, and yet it shines.

It glows with the stunning sconces, subtly reflective wallpaper, and warm brass finishes.

This small space packs in so many details;  the marble countertop has blue and gold veining, the custom vanity has a striking brass frame and brass feet.  And, the angled lines (in the sconces,  plumbing fixtures, wallpaper, tile) were carried throughout the small space to create unity.

Now, she is gorgeous, alluring and ready for her close-up!

The Cool Kitchen

Toronto, Ontario

Originally, we were just going to change the island and add a pantry.  But it turned into a full kitchen and family room renovation.

The old kitchen was dull and lacked the functionality this family wanted, but the basic layout was good.

So, we eliminated the second sink, the island you couldn't actually sit at comfortably and added tons of storage.  We also brought in refrigerator drawers, and a drawer microwave to keep the counters clean.

Better lighting, removing objects that blocked sight lines, and white perimeter cabinetry make this space come alive.  The energy is so much more invigorating, and pretty darn cool.

Beautiful Bathroom

Toronto, Ontario

No one wants the toilet front and centre when you enter a bathroom.  So, the layout was completely rearranged to make the space more inviting and appealing.

The tub is now the feature and the supporting elements serenely gather around. There is a large shower with a bench, a double vanity and tons of storage.  There is even a discrete cabinet beside the toilet for toilet paper and a shelf above the toilet paper holder to place a cell phone.

Calming colours and stone, walnut, cedar and glass make this space to treat to enjoy and be at ease.

The Home Bar

Toronto, Ontario

This entertaining space received a full overhaul.

The clients wanted to keep their fridge and bring in a new wine fridge.  The fridges were used to create balance and symmetry which was lacking in the earlier design.

The new space is also more open - it is easy to move around the new island from both sides.

Proper lighting makes the bar more comfortable and the marble waterfall countertop is drop dead gorgeous.

The hex shape was used in the floor tile and then in an elongated form in the backsplash and the hardware, giving the space a nice rhythm.

Slide on up, relax, and let me pour you a cool one!

Kitchen and Family Room

Toronto, Ontario

This kitchen and family room were once separated by an awkward dividing wall that left the spaces in the dark.

First, we removed the wall and added a timeless coffered ceiling.  The kitchen received a makeover with new appliances, cabinetry and a redesigned kitchen island.  We also extended the lower cabinetry on the window side to create a place for a new view and a reading nook on the opposite side.

In the family room, we added a linear fireplace to the exterior wall to create an incredible focal point.  The millwork and bold blue paint makes a real impact.  The large tv on this wall allows for viewing from the kitchen as well.  Now, our clients spend most of their time in this new bright family hub.

Elevated Ensuite

Toronto, Ontario

Imagine living in a high end hotel. That's how decadent this ensuite feels.

It has mirrors with TVs in them, a double steam shower, in-floor heating, discrete motion sensor lights, in-ceiling speakers, a separate water closet and a hidden full sized washer and dryer.

It also has large scale porcelain tile on the walls and floors which makes this space a breeze to clean with very little grout.

Custom designed floating vanities and a custom coloured free standing tub make this ensuite one of a kind.  Factor in the stunning light fixture and softening window treatments and this space went far beyond my client's expectations.

Bedroom Room and Sitting Area

Toronto, Ontario

This room reflects the concept to live with ease.

It has balance between calmness and alertness which is achieved with calm colours, clean lines and simple forms (rectangles and triangles) contrasted with definitive feature walls, and large scale art and light fixtures.

To get there we removed walls, bulkheads, and the old flooring, changed the ceiling, moved the fireplace location and added new recessed lighting.  Now it is really a place you want to stay all day.

Chalet Spa

Collingwood, Ontario

The homeowners wanted a place to retreat and unwind after a day on the slopes.

The empty basement space became a beautiful spa, complete with sauna and steam shower.

Real stone and cedar wood were selected to give it a natural feel and we used simple lines and lots of glass to make the space contemporary and light.

Powder Room and Laundry Room

Toronto, Ontario

This powder room has impact without being overpowering.

The most striking feature is the lighting. Four crystal pendants hang from the ceiling, two on each side of the mirror and at different heights and distances from the wall, to perfectly frame the viewer.  The elegance continues with carefully planned applied moulding on all the walls that is painted the same colour as the veins in the marble vanity countertop. It is simply beautiful.

The laundry room is neat and clean.   We used the client's favourite colour for most of the cabinetry and fully customized the space to suit their functional needs.  Even the rods for hanging clothes have an integrated light that turns on with motion.  It is beautiful and highly functional.

Serene Spa

North York, Ontario

You would hardly know this bathroom is in the basement.  Even without natural light, you can feel yourself unwinding in the harmonious space.

The large scale tile is luxurious and the feature textured tile behind the vanity and in the shower brings warmth and comfort.

Changing the wood sauna door to a glass one connects with the glass enclosed shower and makes it feel more open.  The long custom vanity keeps the lines simple, clean and very functional.

Objective achieved.

Ensuite

Toronto, Ontario

This ensuite was a challenge to create, but the result looks simple, elegant and warm.

The window location meant that a straightforward shower was going to be too small.  The new design included a bump out in glass so that the shower size could be enlarged without moving the window.

The colours, textures and tile work harmoniously together to create beauty and ease.

Custom Closet

Toronto, Ontario

Working together with Closet Oasis, closetoasis.ca, we tore out the dark wood closet, installed two skylights, and designed a more open space.  This walk-in closet is a combination of concealed storage and open hanging and shelving. The cabinetry is not deep, which allows the room to feel spacious and makes it easy to see and access all the clothing.

There is lots of customization - boot hangers, pant racks, valet rods, belt hooks, angled shoe shelves, dry cleaning bins, and more.

Well planned lighting - recessed, accent and an illuminated mirror - all help to make this closet bright and beautiful.

Ensuite

Toronto, Ontario

This ensuite brings together elements of nature to create a calm space.

The wall tile mimics lines left in the sand when the tide recedes and it practically invites you to touch it.  The tile was so lovely that we decided to use it on all the walls rather than the shower alone.

We needed to be creative to fit everything into this compact bathroom while still making the space feel large and light.  So, we used a mirror with integrated lighting instead of using separate vanity lights, we used a barn door style entry door and shower door, and the handle to slide open the shower door doubles as a towel bar.

The full glass shower also allows the space to feel large and light. Mission accomplished.

Gorgeous Condo

Toronto, Ontario

This condo was confined, dark and dated when the owners purchased it.  We removed and rearranged to create a space that was both open and private.

We removed an entire kitchen wall and put in an island open to the living room and we removed an unnecessary powder room to create a useful front hall closet.  With some changes, an awkward sunroom became an office for two.  Every room was updated, including two bathrooms.  Now, it's perfect, pretty and practical for Thunder the dog and his humans.

Dream Kitchen

Etobicoke, Ontario

This kitchen is equally designed for cooking gourmet meals as it is for entertaining.

The 12-foot long island makes it easy to prepare food and talk with guests at the same time.  It has every appliance a chef could ask for: a 6 burner range with a grill/griddle, a steam oven, a microwave drawer, a huge fridge/freezer, a separate ice maker, and a built-in coffee system.  Phew!

The owners and their guests never need to leave the kitchen!

Calm Ensuite

Etobicoke, Ontario

This dated master bath had a full overhaul.

We created a large custom vanity with double sinks and under cabinet lights, a large shower enclosure, a semi-private toileting area, and installed a gorgeous new bathtub with nearby storage shelves.  To create interest we added simple applied moulding and used soft neutral colours to the separate sections of the walls.  Overall, it is a calm and beautiful space.

Collingwood Chalet

Collingwood, Ontario

From bare bones of cement and ducts we created this beautiful masterpiece.  This empty space is now full for gatherings and retreat.

A modern rustic style was achieved through natural materials and modern lines.  We used reclaimed wood from local barns, stone from northern Ontario and natural slate.

This family can have friends over to enjoy a film in the theatre and cosy up to the warm fireplace.
